Challenges of Logistics for 2023

After a period of Pandemic, where the logistics sector had to reinvent itself (since it was one of the sectors where confinement was not possible) and the demand for products, via e-commerce, exploded drastically in quantity and quality requirements for this type of service, we then went through a period of relative stabilization, now returning with new challenges, such as the scarcity of human resources, increased energy costs, and lack of raw materials in the productive industry.

But there were many more topics covered in our talk, where the government’s and local authorities’ own intervention in this sector could make a difference, in terms of training and qualifying professionals for this sector (which is seen as an unattractive sector and where professionals do not see a career opportunity, which does not at all correspond to reality), through the problem of accessibility, both road and public transport that allow (more) workers to commute to their workplaces, in an activity that is mostly carried out during night hours and where solutions are scarce or even non-existent. On the other hand, by the bureaucratic and slow legislation that does not help to meet the needs of professionals coming from other parts of the globe and where informality/illegality prevails, which contributes nothing to dignified and safe work.

The costs of fuels/energy and scarcity of raw materials in the productive industry were also not overlooked in this conversation. Cost control is increasingly demanding and unpredictability brings real management challenges, which has become weekly and even daily.

On their part, companies have been adapting as best they can with excellent recruitment and retention programs, even collaborating with external entities experienced in Human Resources for Logistics, such as Talenter™, to better organize and plan the activity, which suffers from great fluctuations and is highly dependent on external factors. Automation to optimize material movement and storage flows is also increasingly on the table and in some cases already in advanced implementation phases.

The future of Logistics will be full of challenges, where each one will have to find ways to work and solve them in an original and creative manner, because only in this way will this rapidly growing sector thrive.
